An Author’s Journey

“An Author’s Journey” is a book-within-a-blog feature that chronicles my entry into the world of publishing. Starting in November 2010 and ending in December 2012, “An Author’s Journey” begins with the writing of my first novel “Perfection Unleashed” and ends with the release of my second and third novels, “Perfect Betrayal” and “Perfect Weapon.”
“An Author’s Journey” isn’t the definitive guide to anything except the path I’m taking toward becoming a published author. Ten years from now, I may look back and chuckle over all the mistakes I’ve made along the way, but regardless, “An Author’s Journey” is the accumulation of hours of research. It’s a living record of the resources I’ve used to facilitate my journey, the options I researched, and the rationales for the decisions I’ve made.
“An Author’s Journey” is organized along a timeline. Within each month/chapter, I discuss the activities that consumed most of my time in that month, the resources used, best practices, and lessons learned. Regardless of whether you choose to go down the traditional- or self-publishing route, I hope you will find something useful in this resource.
It is said that ten thousand hours of practice is required to become an expert in any field. At eight hours a day, five days a week (for the equivalent of a full-time job), I’d be five years older before I become an expert in publishing and marketing my novels. That timeline, of course, is completely unrealistic and utterly unattainable; it doesn’t leave much time for actually writing my novels, much less succeed at my day job (which pays the bills.) I bet you don’t have that kind of time either, and if “An Author’s Journey” helps you short-cut your journey toward publication, then it has accomplished its vision.
