I’m kicking off my Featured Author Interviews with Linell Jeppsen. She started writing full-time two years ago. Since then, she won third prize in a contest sponsored by Phyllis Scott Publishing, with her short story, THE GAG GIFT. Her vampire novel, DETOUR TO DUSK, formerly known as The Hunt, is on Kindle/Amazon.com and has received over eighteen- four and five star reviews. Detour To Dusk is also available in paperback. Her post-apocalyptic novel, STORY TIME has over 53-4 and 5 star reviews and was nominated as the best read of 2011 by the Paranormal Romance Guild.
Thank you for joining us today, Linell. Let’s talk about your novel, DETOUR TO DUSK. How did you come up with the title?
This is actually a funny story. A few years ago my husband and I took a trip into Spokane for some reason. It was raining hard and as we drove past a construction zone I saw a sign that read, Detour To Dusk. It ACTUALLY said, detour to Usk (which is a small community outside of Spokane), but I read the words wrong and thought, well- that is an excellent name for a thriller novel!
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
Detour is not a really deep novel…it is more like a modern fairy tale than anything. I guess if readers would take a message away from this story, I would like it to be that love, courage and honor can prevail in this, or any lifetime.
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
Yes! No matter how much you like the words or story you tell, it can always be improved upon! Detour To Dusk has been edited no less than five times since I first wrote it, over 20 years ago! When you write a novel be sure to edit, edit, edit!
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I think Stephen King would qualify as one of the authors that I’m most comfortable with- He writes in an easy, every-day man style that is easy to follow. His novel, The Stand is a book that helped me write Story Time
Tell us your latest news.
I am pleased to announce that my latest novel, Onio! is coming soon from World Castle Publishing! This is a dark fairy tale about a half-human Sasquatch who falls in love with a human girl!
Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?
Please support your small pubbed and Indy writers. For all our flaws, we are the story-tellers of our generation! Also, thank you for all you have done to help me find my voice.
A ragged band of vampires are cutting a bloody path of destruction from Alaska to Washington State! As frost turns the leaves gold and paints the high mountain treetops silver, hundreds of hunters arrive in Swan Valley for their annual deer hunt. What they don’t know is an outcast band of vampires have arrived, as well. Raphael Goldhawk, king of the high vampire council, has decreed the taking of human life unlawful. Raul Stannard, an ancient enemy of the half-human king, is determined to overthrow the council, even if it means the exposure and eventual annihilation of the vampire race. Four people, a Ferry County forest ranger (Roger Atley), an Indian spirit-walker (Harley Truefeather), and a young married couple (Brian and Holly Jensen), are about to be caught up in an ancient power struggle, and in a love affair as old as time itself. This novel combines ancient history with modern times, in an epic show-down between good and evil, love and hate. Grab your camping gear and hold on tight! It’s time for DETOUR TO DUSK!
